The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has begun investigations into the
conduct of five judges of the High Court.
With the High Court having 11 judges
in total, the simultaneous investigation involves nearly half of the bench. Among the cases being investigated is that of Judge Mohamed
Niyaz, who is the longest-serving judge on the High Court bench.
The JSC is currently looking
into five cases against Judge Mohamed Niyaz. Judge Niyaz has since submitted his application
for early retirement, and the JSC has decided to grant him the opportunity to
retire.
The JSC is also
investigating a conduct case against Judge Mohamed Faisal. Although the JSC had
previously decided to appoint him as the Chief Judge of the High Court, he was
never formally appointed to the position. Recently, he resigned from his
position as the judge responsible for the High Court's administration. It is
understood that Judge Faisal resigned due to the ongoing conduct case against
him at the JSC.
The JSC is also investigating cases
against Judge Hussain Mazeed, Judge Fathimath Farheeza, and Judge Deebanaz
Fahmy. All three were appointed to the High Court during the previous
government's administration.
With five judges under investigation, the administration
of the High Court has been temporarily handed over to Judge Abdulla Jameel
Moosa, who was appointed to the High Court bench last month.
