MPL hires 40 persons with disabilities

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has today hired 40 persons with disabilities on a contract basis under their 'Fahi Program'.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has today hired 40 persons with disabilities on a contract basis under their 'Fahi Program'. 

In a ceremony held at MPL's Head Office today, the employment letters were presented to the new employees by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

Although the current jobs are on a contract basis, MPL said that after assessing areas of competency, permanent employment would be arranged in the future. 

The new hires include 2 persons hired to work at MPL's HDh. Kulhudhuhfushi Port, 3 at S. Hithadhoo Port, and 35 at their Male' premises.

All 40 individuals hired today will be given the opportunity to seek Level 3 certificates under the National Apprenticeship Program. MPL further said that the same option would be provided to the 32 persons with disabilities currently employed by the company. 

MPL also introduced an accessibility feature on their website for vision-impaired persons. This feature was launched by Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham.

MPL said that this accessibility feature was tested in collaboration with the Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives. 

MPL expressed their commitment to creating an inclusive society.
