The Housing Ministry has stated that registries for 2,319 land plots being issued from Gulhi Falhu under the Binveriya housing scheme have now been handed over.

The current administration changed the land use plan of Gulhi Falhu which was drafted by the previous President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih administration. Through this, a decision was made to transfer some of the land plots previously granted from Giraavaru Falhu to Gulhi Falhu. With this, the previous registries were voided, and new registries began to be issued from July onwards.

Some recipients refused to sign the new agreements claiming that it contradicted the land plot issuance policy. The Housing Ministry, regardless, set a final deadline for signing these agreements.

This deadline was reached on November 6. An official from the Housing Ministry stated today that as of now, 2,319 registries have been issued, with 25 of these recipients having received the land plot as well.

The government is set to issue a total of 2,438 land plots from Gulhi Falhu. This includes 1,347 land plots transferred from Giraavaru Falhu. As of now, 119 recipients remain yet to receive the registries.

In an earlier statement, the Housing Ministry stated that although the previous administration had handed over registries to land plots issued from Hulhumale', Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu, the changes brought to the Gulhi Falhu land use plan due to various reasons, the land plots received from Gulhi Falhu have changed. The new plots being allocated to these recipients were selected through a new draw, the ministry said.

The ministry further said that the previous agreements made with recipients by the last administration included provisions that contravene the Land Act. It is for reasons such as these that new agreements are being made, they said.

Under the Binveriya Scheme, 9,031 land plots are being issued to Male' residents from Hulhumale', Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu.
