An issue with the Cloudflare service has caused disruptions to numerous services in the Maldives.

The problem affecting Cloudflare, which is used to maintain the security and performance of websites and applications, has caused many popular websites like X (formerly Twitter) and ChatGPT to go down worldwide. This outage has consequently disrupted many services in the Maldives as well.

Both major telecommunication providers, Dhiraagu and Ooredoo, have stated that due to the cloud flare issue, customers may experience difficulties using certain websites and applications.

Furthermore, internet banking services for both Bank of Maldives (BML) and Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) have also been affected.

"Similar to the disruption faced by websites and apps in many countries globally, our bank's online banking services and app services have been temporarily interrupted. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused by this," said BML.

MIB stated that their team is monitoring the situation in coordination with their service partners and is working to restore services as soon as possible.

The cloud flare disruption has also caused several Maldivian news websites to go down.

Cloud flare is an internet infrastructure company used to protect websites from attacks like DDoS and to ensure that websites remain accessible without interruption, even during periods of heavy traffic.

Cloud flare acknowledged the issue, stating that their dashboard and API were also failing, and many customers were receiving a "500 Error" message. The company indicated that the problem is likely widespread and that they are working to determine the cause.
