President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that several concerns raised by civil servants over this month’s salary changes have now been resolved.
Salaries for all civil service staff, council administrative employees and more than 20,000 workers across sectors including the judiciary increased on 1 November.
But some employees complained that the raises were too small and that their take-home pay had not improved as expected.
President Muizzu previously said the Pay Commission would review the concerns.
Speaking at an event marking his administration’s two years in office, the president said the commission had visited government offices to investigate the issues.
As a result, he said, salaries would be higher when the next pay cheque is issued and the concerns would be addressed.
The reforms will bring a “significant” increase to basic pay across the public sector, he added, with the minimum basic salary set at MVR 7,000 higher than the currently mandated rate.
President Muizzu also said complaints regarding overtime had been resolved, announcing that overtime pay for work on weekends and public holidays would no longer be subject to a cap.
