The Chairperson of the People's National Congress (PNC) and Speaker of
Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, stated today that the greatest achievement of
the PNC government in its two years in power is the stabilization of the
Maldivian economy.
In an interview marking the second
anniversary of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government, Abdul Raheem stated
that the economy was in a dire state upon Muizzu's taking office, mentioning
MVR 9 billion owed to companies for projects initiated by the previous
administration. He emphasized that the current government is addressing these
pending payments.
"If I were to describe one thing as the success of (President Muizzu's
government), I would describe it as the stabilization of the Maldivian
economy," Abdul Raheem said.

Abdul Raheem noted that at the beginning of President
Muizzu's administration, competitors claimed that the Maldives could only be
prevented from going bankrupt for a maximum of about six months.
"But that didn't happen, did it? Two years have
passed; money has not been printed, and the country has not defaulted due to
unpaid debt. The due debts are being paid when they are due," Abdul Raheem
stated.
Abdul Raheem highlighted that the
current government's focus on equality and stability distinguishes it from
previous administrations, emphasizing the importance of advancing development
alongside safety.

He noted that all political parties in the Maldives can
pursue political activities freely, although such activities depend on their
level of public support, and any decrease in attendance is unrelated to
government influence.
"I will say that political stability has now been established in the
Maldives. Political stability has been established to a degree never achieved
before," Abdul Raheem declared.
He added that political parties no longer have to
struggle because the government is obstructing their work. Abdul Raheem cited
the freedom of political leaders, such as former President Ibrahim Mohamed
Solih and former President Abdulla Yameen, to travel to islands and engage in
political work as an example of the current political freedom.
