Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef stated that because President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is taking thoughtful steps, one after the other, signs of good governance are visible throughout the state and society.

In an interview with the state media to mark the second anniversary of the current administration today, the Vice President said that President Muizzu has worked to resolve many issues that no previous Maldivian President dared to touch.

He claimed that the rise of undesirable societal issues and the erosion of personal safety prior to this administration occurred because previous presidents opted for "easy solutions."

The Vice President asserted that previous presidents' choice of easy solutions led to undesirable societal issues and the country reaching a point where personal safety was compromised. However, since taking office, President Muizzu has initiated efforts to ban vaping and combat the drug issue.

“The Vice President said that since the President took office, several key initiatives have been launched including the ban on vaping and intensified anti-drug operations with the aim of reducing public fear, preventing harmful activities, and creating rehabilitation opportunities to help reintegrate affected individuals back into society.”

He noted that President Muizzu is implementing changes systematically, and since they are not arbitrary actions, they will take time. He emphasized that the President is working by strengthening institutions and granting them the necessary legal authority.

"He is taking step after step very thoughtfully, within a system. In a way that benefits even the most vulnerable citizen. The vulnerable Maldivian citizen feeling that is an example of having a sincere and obedient leader," the Vice President stated.

"That is good governance. The signs of good governance are now visible in the Maldivian state, throughout society," he added.

The Vice President concluded by saying that the President is working at a fast pace despite challenges. He affirmed that he works closely and harmoniously with the President, and receives the President's advice and guidance in all his work.
