Under the newly launched 'Boahiyaavahikan Enmenah' [Housing For All] policy, land plots for Male' residents are to be issued in two categories.
The Housing For All policy was launched last night in a ceremony held at the conference hall in Dharumavantha Hospital.
A presentation on the policy given by the ministry at last night's ceremony revealed that two schemes will be conducted to issue land plots and flats in the Male' region. Under the scheme to issue land plots for those living in the Male' region, two categories were determined.
Category 1: Registered Male' residents
- Persons registered in Male' since birth
- Persons registered on the Male' register
- Persons registered to a Male' address later in life
- Applicants for land plots must have been registered in Male' for over five years
Category 2: Residents of Male' registered in other islands
- Must have resided in Male' for a consecutive period of no less than 15 years
Basic requirements from applicants
- Be a Maldivian citizen
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Not own land or part of a land larger than 400sqft
- If applicant owns a land or part of land smaller than 400sqft, they must be willing to relinquish it under terms set by the government
- If applicant has inherited land or part of land from parents or others as heir, they must be willing to relinquish it under terms set by the government
- If a land is jointly registered to applicant and others, then the applicant must be willing to relinquish their part to others registered as owners
- Over the past five years, applicant must not have sold, inherited or given away a private land, housing unit, rowhouse, or apartment in a jointly-owned building
- Applicant must not have purchased a housing unit in their own name from a jointly-owned building
- Applicant must not have sold, given or relinquished land received in Hulhumale' in exchange for land relinquished from Male' under the Veshifahi Male' program
The presentation also outlined how points would be granted in land issuance for Male' residents. These are based on:
- The period of time registered or residing in Male'
- Family's ownership of land and housing
- Age
- Family situation (number of children or failure to have children due to health issues)
The ministry said that in setting the criteria for granting points, priority was given to ensure the information would be verifiable.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced last week that under this government's housing policy, 15,000 land plots and 7,500 flats would be issued in the Male' region.
Housing Ministry said last night that the land plots would be issued from the Male' region, including Rasmale'.
