Family Court has issued a sentence stating that compensation can be sought from MDP and MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail regarding MDP activist Mariyam Zubair's (Mandhy) comments about President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's children during an MDP rally.
During an MDP rally that was held in March, Mariyam Zubair made comments about the President's decision to ban vapes in Maldives, connecting it to one of the President's children. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed pressed charges against Zubair, MDP and Fayyaz via the Family Court.
The Family Court issued a sentence today regarding the case, with it stating that the comments made by Zubair and Ahmed Saleem (Maaz) against the President's children has led to the loss of the children's safety and sanctity. The sentence also reads that MDP and Fayyaz are to be held responsible for not speaking against the comments but for supporting them. The sentence goes on to say that the First Lady has the right to seek compensation from MDP and Fayyaz due to that.
The First Lady pressed charges against Zubair, Fayyaz and MDP via the Civil Court as well. Last July, the Civil Court had ruled that the First Lady has the right to seek compensation over the comments made by Zubair. However, the Civil Court had ruled that as Fayyaz and MDP were not directly involved, they would not have to take responsibility.
While the First Lady has the right to seek compensation, she has not pressed charges in seeking compensation.
