In acknowledgement of the work done by women in various fields, 15 women have received the Rehendhi Award last night.
The award ceremony was held at Barceló Nasandhura, with First Lady Sajidha Mohamed handing the award to five recipients who had won last year, with 10 new recipients being awarded this year.
22 people had applied for the Rehendhi Award last year. The five who had won the award are:
- K. Kaadhishoo, Maavina, Mariyam Ishana (in the field of Social Empowerment)
- Th. Vilufushi, Thandiraiymaage, Mariyam Murushidhaa (in the field of Social Empowerment)
- M. Pink Plover, Asma Hassan (in the field of Social Empowerment)
- HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, Totalge, Aishath Thaaifaa (in the field of Social Empowerment)
- L. Fonadhoo, Furummaage, Women's Enhancement Association (in the field of Social Empowerment)
Of the 28 people who had applied for the Rehendhi Award, the 10 that had won are:

- Th. Kinbidhoo, Muringu, Suraiya Ibrahim (in the field of Social Empowerment)

- H. Light Star, Aminath Reema Rasheed (in the field of Leadership and Governance)
- M. Hudhu Carnation, Dr. Ruhushana Ahmed (in the field of Social Empowerment)

During the award ceremony, Social and Family Development Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham stated that women are the leaders of households. The minister also stated that they are worthy of respect and they continue to serve their families while being household leaders.

Minister Shiham said that this is not applicable to modern times, with Ibn Batuta having written the same in his book about Maldives 600 years ago.
The Rehendhi Awards were started in 2014 for women empowerment. More than 60 recipients have been awarded in the last 11 years since the inception of the Rehendhi Awards.
