First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has said that women are the driving force behind the revitalization and continued strength of any nation.
She made the remarks while addressing the Rehendhi Award 2024–2025 ceremony.
Highlighting the central role of mothers, the First Lady noted that every individual’s first teacher, guide, and source of support is their mother.
She emphasized that women bear the profound responsibility of nurturing individuals of strong moral character, capable of contributing meaningfully to national progress.
“Women must recognize the enduring significance of this role and fulfil it with diligence, integrity, and purpose,” she said.
First Lady Sajidha also stressed the growing domestic, professional, and social responsibilities of women, underscoring the importance of technological proficiency, entrepreneurial innovation, and readiness for emerging political opportunities.
She added that Maldivian women have historically been educated, discerning, and fully capable of carrying these responsibilities across generations.
The award ceremony celebrated the abilities, perseverance, resilience, and achievements of Maldivian women across diverse fields.
Fourteen women and one nonprofit organization received the Rehendhi Award for 2024–2025, with the First Lady presenting them with awards and commemorative brooches.
Conferred by the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Rehendhi Award recognizes women and organizations making exemplary contributions to national service, advancing gender equality, and protecting women’s rights in the Maldives.
