Although Fuvahmulah’s water supply has been declared safe, some households are still receiving “dirty” water, residents on the island have said.
The water has been turned back on after the contamination issue was solved in Fuvahmulah, an island that has a population 13,800. Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) had also deemed it safe to use.
However, someone who was in Fuvahmulah that had spoken to Mihaaru News stated that there were inconsistencies between the water in many areas on the island. Some areas were receiving water so dirty that it was white in color, said the individual.
"Even though it is a bit better in some areas, it is not safe to drink," said the individual.
There are some houses where the issue has been properly solved, with clean water being available.
MFDA stated that water testing was done by taking water from different areas. They also said that the analysis showed that it was in line with health association regulations, stated MFDA.
Due to the water supplied to Fuvahmulah by Fenaka being contaminated, the water supply had been halted from last Monday.
As per someone from Fuvahmulah previously, it has been a while since they have been experiencing water issues, with the taste and color of the water having changed. The individual stated that despite these things, the people of Fuvahmulah kept using the water.
