It has been revealed that Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of sexually abusing children, video recording the acts and blackmailing multiple individuals, had met with former Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Waheed, with him having maintained close contact with Epstein.
Hackers had leaked email correspondence prior as well, mentioning a former Maldivian President. It was revealed to be Waheed at America's Parliament during congress, when their "House Insight Committee" publicized 20,000 files, where said information was found alongside email addresses.
The email correspondence that was revealed showed that Waheed had maintained a close relationship with Epstein, with him being someone Waheed had kept in touch with for advice on various matters.
Among said matters includes Maldives' financial matters and the campaign strategy for the 2013 Presidential Election.
As per the emails, Waheed had directly met with Epstein during his visit to the UN General Assembly in 2012 where he was to give a speech. Afterwards, the first thing Waheed had sought Epstein's guidance on was the proposal worth billions (USD) submitted by then Finance Minister Abdullah Jihad which may have had the potential to shake up the Maldivian economy.
"You are the one who will save me"
The most shocking email correspondence between Waheed and Epstein were the emails in January 2013, along with Epstein's replies to Waheed.
The first email showed Waheed requesting Epstein's opinion on what he should do regarding the USD 4 billion financial proposal submitted by the then Finance Minister.
"I feel as though there is not enough information regarding this. They always want to meet the Finance Minister separately in places such as Bangkok or some other country," as was written by Waheed in one of the emails.
Waheed had also asked Epstein in that email as to why someone would want to collect so much money when Maldives' credit score was non-existent while having so much debt.
As per the email correspondence, the USD 4 billion proposal is a scam, Epstein had immediately replied. He also wrote down what the scammers would do as next steps if the proposal was to move forward.
"It is a scam. The next thing they will tell you is that they will only need an account and for a vehicle to be set up, and that there is no risk involved," said Epstein while advising Waheed.
Epstein instructed Waheed to ask the Finance Minister to give more details regarding the proposal.
"Thank you. You are the one who will save me. I will do exactly as you have said," said Waheed in reply to Epstein's instructions.
Political advice
As per the released emails, Epstein had also assisted in finding those who could help Waheed during the 2013 Presidential Election. Epstein had suggested a Swedish diplomat while making arrangements for Waheed's campaign.
It is known from the emails that the individual Epstein had suggested was a friend of his.
Epstein, a wealthy financier with ties to political figures and celebrities in the United States and other countries, was arrested in 2005 for allegedly sexually abusing and blackmailing hundreds of children, with him being rearrested in 2019 after release. A month after his confession to the charges put upon him, he was found dead in his prison cell on 10th August.
Epstein's ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, was arrested and convicted of aiding Epstein in his crimes and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
