The Fuvahmulah City Council has requested a halt to water supply as results are yet to come in for water safety tests conducted after resolving the water issue.

A statement released by the Council announced that the Mayor and council members had visited the water plant to ascertain water safety. They had held discussions over the matter with Fenaka's senior officials.

However, they are yet to receive the results of any tests conducted to confirm water safety, they said. Based on this, they appealed for the water supply for general use to be halted until water safety is confirmed.

Water services in Fuvahmulah were interrupted from last Monday due to severe contamination. After three days, services were resumed yesterday. Several residences, however, remained without access as the meter valves remained closed by Fenaka officials.

A Fuvahmulah resident earlier said that the water issues had persisted over several days before action had been taken. They said that the colour and taste of the water had changed, and yet residents continued to use it.

The water supply was shut off on Monday to treat the water with a high dose of chlorine.
