National News Agency launched

The National News Agency (NNA) has been launched today. The purpose of the NNA is to provide information to media through a single platform. 

The Information Ministry signed an agreement with State media PSM on August 7 to establish the government's news agency. 

Three months on, the National News Agency, run under PSM, was launched in a special ceremony held at TVM by President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed, PSM Managing Director Ibrahim Nasreen and State Minister at Information Ministry Ali Sham'aan. 

The agency's website was launched, and agreements were signed with the first 20 media outlets to join the platform. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Sham'aan stated that PSM's video content, as well as photos and videos of various events will be provided for media use through the platform. In future, photos and videos taken by other media will also be made available via the platform, he added. 

PSM MD Nasreen said that the large quantity of content will be provided through the agency free of charge. There will also be premium packages through which access can be obtained for coverage of special events. 

He further announced that several training programmes for media are also planned through PSM's Maldive Media Institute and the Information Ministry. They will also work to provide access to international media events, he said.
