The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has spent over MVR 7 million
this year on providing financial assistance for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
treatments.
In a post shared on social media last night, the agency stated that from
January of this year up to last month, a total of MVR 7.1 million was spent
from the Fertility Care Trust Fund. This amount marks a significant increase
from last year's figure of MVR 4.7 million.
NSPA reported that assistance has been provided to 93 women seeking
fertility care, and of those, the treatment was successful for 23 individuals.
In addition to NSPA, which operates under the state welfare scheme, the Aasandha
program is also currently providing financial assistance for IVF treatments,
meaning two funds are now offering this support.
Providing Aasandha coverage for the treatment of couples facing infertility
issues was one of the pledges President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu committed to
achieving within the first 100 days of his administration.
Arrangements have also been made for IVF services to be available at the Indira
Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
