Drug crackdown: 90 arrested, investigations underway

Police have said that under the major drug operation initiated this morning, 90 individuals have been arrested as of now, and investigations are underway. 

Police said this is the most large scale drug enforcement operation carried out in recent history, covering atolls across the country. 

In a social media post regarding the operation that commenced at 5:30am this morning, Police said that as of 12:15pm, 90 individuals had been detained. 

Police also shared photos of drugs and money seized during the operation. 

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the operation on X this morning, stating that over 500 police officers are taking part in simultaneously searching over 100 locations. He stated that Police had been instructed to conduct a special operation targeting those in the drug trade.

Police said that the operation, titled 'Operation Alimagu', was conducted based on intelligence reports. 

According to Police, this operation reflects sustained efforts to curb drug trade, eradicate narcotics, and prosecute those involved.
