Residents of Fuvahmulah City say many households remain without water despite Fenaka Corporation’s announcement that supply was restored last night.
Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah said the issue had been resolved and that water has been supplied since last night. However, some residents reported that water meters at their homes remain sealed, preventing usage.
Najah said households experiencing continued disruption are likely those with “cross connections”; systems using both supply and well water in the same pipe. He said such homes would receive water once the issue is corrected, and that residents could fix it themselves or seek Fenaka’s help.
But residents told Mihaaru News that Fenaka had asked households to open their faucets to flush out contaminated water yesterday and that meters were later sealed with cables, stopping supply entirely.
“Even if water is available, we can’t use it because the meter is sealed,” one resident said. Another reported having no cross connection yet still not receiving water.
Residents have also taken to social media, questioning which homes are receiving supply and whether they should remove the seals themselves.
Fuvahmulah’s water network was shut down earlier this week on Monday after contamination was detected and cleaning efforts began, leaving the city without water for several days.
