Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Najah has stated that water supply to Fuvahmulah homes have been restored now, adding that the issue was resolved last night.
Najah told Mihaaru News that water services resumed last night after a two-day disruption. In response to reports that some homes still lack access as of this morning, Najah explained that these are residences with 'cross connections'.
Cross connections refer to when supply water and well water are connected to the same pipes.
"Residences with cross connections do not have water yet. We are notifying such homes to correct that. It's a simple thing that they can resolve on their own. If they ask us for assistance, we will provide that," Najah said.
"In some homes, the meter valves are still shut, so people wouldn't know if water is back," a Fuvahmulah resident explained.
"Only Fenaka officials can open the valves."
Water services in Fuvahmulah were interrupted last Monday due to water contamination, leaving the 13,800 population without access to water.
On Tuesday, President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed assured that the issue would be resolved in 'about six hours', however this was not achieved.
Yesterday, Fenaka MD Najah said that the issue had arisen due to how water pipes had been connected in some homes. He raised the issue of cross connections as well.
Najah said then that the issue of pipes being installed wrongly would be addressed at a later time. However, the issues faced in the main network had been resolved, and water services would resume after testing.
