Criminal Court today ruled that the second charge filed against former Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Ahmed Saeed Mohamed can also be moved forward.

Saeed, who is currently serving a four-year prison sentence, faces the charge of misuse of his official capacity. The State alleges that while he was the Managing Director of Fenaka in 2023, he illegally purchased an ice plant in L. Maamendhoo, constructed by a private party, for Fenaka.

While Saeed previously denied the charge of misuse of an official position, the court ruled in today's hearing that the case can proceed under the civil standard of proof.

The next phase of the trial will involve the submission of pre-trial motions.

Saeed was sentenced to four years in prison by the Criminal Court last September after being found guilty of releasing funds to a private company under a 2019 agreement between Fenaka and the company, without verifying that the contracted work had been completed.
