A Bangladeshi man who went missing after a cargo boat ran aground in Kaashidhoo lagoon last night has been found dead.

Police identified the deceased as Md Alamgir, 30, a Bangladeshi national. He was discovered in the lagoon during a joint search operation by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and police.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kaashidhoo Health Centre.

The vessel, “Faisala”, was en route to Kaashidhoo from the southern side of the island when it ran aground around 7:52 pm last night, police said.
