Police responded to reports of a man being assaulted in a flat in Hulhumale'. The search of the flat, however, led to the discovery of 17kg of drugs.
Police said today that they had discovered these drugs in an MPL Tower flat in Hulhumale' Phase 2 after they had gone there last Sunday night to investigate reports of violence against a man.
Police reported that the drugs found at the residence weighed approximately 17.39kg.
The occupant of the flat at the time has been taken into custody. He has been identified as Mohamed Jazlan Ashraf, Male' Registry no. 1786. The court has placed him in remand in custody until the end of trial.
Police said that the Jazlan had been alone in the flat when officers had entered. However, there was damage to property inside the apartment and other signs of an altercation.
Police confirmed that the Drug Enforcement Department and Hulhumale' Police are proceeding with the investigation.
