Mother arrested for child sexual abuse

A mother has been arrested for sexually abusing her child while being in a state of intoxication. 

Police said today that they received reports of a woman in the Male' area physically abusing her child, and sexually abusing her child while being under the influence of alcohol. The case was forwarded to Police by the Social and Family Development Ministry. 

The 50 year old woman was arrested yesterday under a court order, Police said. 

When presented in court today for her remand hearing, she was placed in remand in custody for a period of 30 days. 

Police did not disclose the identity of the woman involved. In such cases, it is against the law to disclose any information that may reveal the identity of the victim.
