President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed announced around 3pm today that the water issues faced in Fuvahmulah will be resolved in the next six hours or so.
Fuvahmulah had its water supply interrupted yesterday due to contamination.
In a social media post this afternoon, Heena announced that due to the contamination being noticed, efforts are now ongoing to disinfect the water, clean and flush the tanks in accordance with guidelines from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).
Heena assured that water safety would be ensured and services resumed within approximately six hours.
The post added that in response to the water shortage, alternative measures were implemented to ensure Fuvahmulah residents received essential water supplies. As such, 1200 cases of bottled water were delivered via air and sea, with authorities working to dispatch more.
Fuvahmulah Council, meanwhile, has said that the issue has persisted over several days, with no previous efforts having been made by Fenaka Corporation to resolve the issue.
