President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated today that the "Maldives 2.0" policy, which was introduced this year where the government is set to digitalize all state services, is the biggest project in ridding the state operation system from corruption.

At the 57th Republic Day Function held this morning at the Social Center, President Muizzu said that he is working to have a term that focuses on fairness and equality. He said that in order to do that, the state operation system must be rid of corruption.

The President said that as getting rid of corruption is a pledge of his, a lot of work has been done in order to achieve that purpose. President Muizzu said that even though corruption is a negative force in all countries, the difference between nations is their actions in getting rid of it.

President Muizzu said that he wants to facilitate a state operation system where both sides can be seen and is transparent, and ridding the system of pathways to corruption is the first thing that needs to be done for a fair and equal presidency.

The President said that with that in mind, next year will see one of the most important projects from this government begin, titled "Digitalization Maldives 2.0."

"Maldives 2.0 will hopefully be this government's largest effort in ridding state operations of corruption," said the President.

President Muizzu said that corrupt actions are conducted by individuals who have the opportunity to participate in acquiring personal benefits. He continued stating that lowest level employees all the way top level ones conduct corrupt actions.

The President used the corrupt actions being done in giving visas to expatriates as an example. He stated that even though it has been a long time since corruption has been ongoing in giving visas to expatriates, Immigration's E-Visa system introduced by the government yesterday is one of the biggest steps taken in ridding corruption in this area.

"Immigration's services have been digitalized yesterday. Human intervention has been more or less stopped," said the President.

"Meaning, there will be no more opportunities for a citizen to beg someone to conduct actions of corruption, with digitalization facilitating an automatic system."

President Muizzu stated that next year's state budget that has been submitted to Parliament has set aside a large portion to start work on "Maldives 2.0". The President said that the work will begin next year and will see it come to an end in mid-2028.
