Ondhigo ordered to pay MVR 8.5 million in unpaid GST and plastic bag fees

The Civil Court has ordered Ondhigo Pvt Ltd to pay MVR 8.5 million to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), including unpaid GST, plastic bag fees, and penalties.

According to the court judgment issued on Sunday, Ondhigo had MVR 7.3 million in unpaid GST between May 2020 and February 2024. The company was also fined MVR 1.8 million and MVR 474 as plastic bag fees.

MIRA filed the lawsuit after the company failed to respond to notices sent within the legal deadline.

In Ondhigo’s absence, the court proceeded to issue a judgment in absentia, as allowed under the Civil Procedure Code for cases involving a specific monetary claim.

The court ruled that Ondhigo must pay MVR 8,511,029.30 to MIRA within 14 days from November 9.
