Maldives Immigration has become the first immigration department in the
region to be fully digitized, following the launch of the Electronic Visa
(e-Visa) and other new digital services today.
The Maldives e-Visa service was officially inaugurated by President Dr.
Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held today at Barcelo Nasandhura.
Prior to the introduction of the modern e-Visa system, visa applications were submitted via paper forms, with a subsequent online transition that still required physical attendance for appointments and passport submissions at Immigration. This posed challenges for applicants, particularly for those living outside of Malé.
Controller of Immigration Ahmed Faseeh highlighted that the newly launched e-Visa system is a fully digital service, matching the standards of services offered in developed countries.
"I assure you that the service will expand in the Maldives in line with
international standards, at a level equivalent to the visa services available
in developed countries across the world," Faseeh said.
The e-Visa and the Maldives Immigration mobile application are innovative digital platforms created by Maldives Immigration to facilitate visa services. This initiative is seen as a historic advancement for the department, as it streamlines the visa application process by consolidating various services into a single, user-friendly system. This change simplifies the application experience for users who previously navigated multiple systems.
Upon the issuance of a visa, the e-Visa can be downloaded online, and a
dedicated QR code will be provided to easily verify the e-Visa's authenticity.
Maldives Immigration announced that these new digital services will be
available to the public starting November 23rd of this month.
