The land reclamation project for Hulhumalé Phase 3, which aims to
alleviate the severe housing crisis in the Malé region, has restarted today
after a temporary suspension.
Following the resumption of the remaining 38 hectares of reclamation work
for Hulhumalé Phase 3, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited the area today to
inspect the progress and gather information on the ongoing work.
The project, which was contracted to Capital Marine and Civil Construction
(CMC), involves the reclamation of a total of 63 hectares of land, according to
the government’s plan.

The Ministry of Construction stated that since the project began in
September 2023, 24 hectares of land had been reclaimed prior to the halt. The
Ministry explained that the project was paused due to the commencement of the
work to revise the Hulhumalé Master Plan.

Housing Development Corporation issued a notice requesting that all
marine vessels traveling near the Hulhumalé Phase III area exercise caution due
to the restart of the reclamation work.
The Ministry of Construction confirmed that the government is working to
complete the project swiftly to maximize housing opportunities for citizens.
