President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that generous aid provided by China is
visible everywhere in the Maldives, and cooperation between the two countries
has intensified across various sectors, extending beyond just infrastructural
development.
In an interview with the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the President said that
the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and China has brought
numerous benefits to both nations.
The President highlighted that the assistance provided by China for the infrastructure
development of the Maldives has opened many economic avenues, with benefits
also being realized politically and socially.
Noting that the relationship between the two countries is currently at an
unprecedented height, President Muizzu stated that cooperation has accelerated
across various sectors, including trade, agriculture, fisheries,
communications, health, education, and the digital economy, in addition to
infrastructure development.

"Furthermore, with the activation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) established
between the two countries earlier this year, the trade relations between the
two countries have been taken to an entirely new level. And that relationship
will strengthen and expand further in the future," the President said.
He emphasized that the close bond between the Maldives and China is founded
on the spirit of friendship, respect, and cooperation.
The President praised China for setting an example in providing aid from a
large country to smaller nations, stating that this encourages small countries
like the Maldives.
Assuring China that the Maldives will always support the "One
China" policy, the President concluded that the Maldives is ready to work
together with China to overcome various shared challenges.
