Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem has been elected Chair of the Budget Committee, which will be reviewing the proposed MVR 64.2 billion State Budget for the coming year. 

In today's Budget Committee meeting, Saleem was elected as Chair through the unanimous votes of all MPs present. Saleem also chairs the Public Accounts Committee. 

The Budget Committee is composed of MPs in the Public Accounts Committee and the Economic Committee. It has a total of 22 MPs, of which 18 were in attendance in today's meeting. 

Central Fuvahmulah MP Ali Fazad, who serves as Deputy Chair of the Economic Committee, was unanimously elected as Deputy Chair of the Budget Committee. 

In today's meeting, a decision was reached to proceed with budget review in the same manner that parliament has done in previous years. The deadline for budget review was set at November 19. 

The committee will commence its work next week, with discussions held today on when the Finance Minister, MMA Governor, and Auditor General would be summoned to committee meetings.
