Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP for North Galolhu constituency Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) has appealed seeking a quick resolution to the delays and challenges faced in acquiring medicine.
In a letter addressed to National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) CEO Heena Waleed, MP Ibrahim said that there have been multiple complaints that in recent days, there has been extensive delays in bringing in medicine which is not readily available in the country.
He cited one such example, where an individual who requested to bring in an injection still has not been received to this day, despite six months having passed since the request was lodged. The individual had appealed seeking a date when the injection would be received, but has failed to receive a response to date, he said.
Ibrahim asked for it to be looked into to see if the alarming delays in something as crucial as access to medicine is due to negligence on the part of STO or due to administrative delays in granting approval from NSPA.
"If this situation continues, it will cause further hardship for those suffering from illnesses. I urge you to organize the process in a way that eases these difficulties," he wrote.
