The practical work to construct 400 housing units in Fuvahmulah City
commenced on Tuesday.
The launch of the project's physical work took place at a ceremony held yesterday afternoon in Fuvahmulah, during the ongoing visit of President Dr. Mohamed
Muizzu to the island.
Upon the President's arrival in Fuvahmulah, he received a warm welcome from
a large number of the island’s residents at the airport.

The foundation stone for the housing units was laid at the ceremony by
Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and MP's representing the various constituencies of Fuvahmulah. President Muizzu and
members of his cabinet also participated in the event.
According to residents of the island, housing is one of the most pressing
issues currently faced on the city. With a population of approximately 13,000,
Fuvahmulah is in need of multiple housing projects.

During his visit to Fuvahmulah, the President also launched several other
major projects and inaugurated a number of new services.
Projects Launched at Fuvahmulah:

Start of work on the Fuvahmulah
Waste Management Centre.

Start of work on the new
building for the Gn. Atoll Education Centre.
·
Inauguration of CT Scan
services at the Fuvahmulah Hospital.
·
Opening of a BML US Dollar
ATM.
·
Inauguration of the Maadhandu
Ward Futsal Field.
·
Start of work on the Police
Accommodation Building.
·
Start of work on opening a
branch of the National Library.

The President also met with the Fuvahmulah City Council and
the Women's Development Committee last night. A public gathering to meet with the
island’s residents was also scheduled for last evening.
During his two-day visit to the southernmost region of Maldives, the
President will travel to Addu City today. His first stop in Addu will be
Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, followed by visits to the other connected islands of
Addu.
