Some roads leading from the Presidential Jetty to the Local Market were closed off yesterday in order to upgrade and develop them.

Police said that Boduthakurufaanu Magu and adjacent roads were closed off for public traffic last night at 8:00pm in order to pour tarmac onto the roads.

As per the chart that was published via the Police, vehicles will not be able to drive from the Local Market up to the parking zone near the President's Office. Parking near the adjacent roads has also been restricted.

The practical work to widen the northern section of  Boduthakurufaanu Magu and develop it to modern standards started in August.

The project was awarded to MTCC, with the state budget allocating MVR 144 million to the project. The road will be expanded into four lanes by expanding the canal outwards.

Due to the canal expansion, the lagoon has been closed off as well.

The project will be split into different stages, with the road from the Local Market to MTCC's Henveiru Ferry Terminal being expanded and tarred. The project has a completion timeline of one year and three months.

The project includes the establishment of a drainage system, road markings and sign boards.
