President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a decree establishing the first air station of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Air Corps.

This marks a significant step in enhancing national security and maritime surveillance.

The decree, issued under the President’s powers under Articles 106(b) and 115(t) of the Constitution and Article 9 of the Armed Forces Act, directs the MNDF Air Corps to operationalize the station to support airspace surveillance, monitoring of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and execution of Air Corps operations.

It further mandates 24-hour continuous airspace monitoring over the EEZ to ensure the Air Corps meets its operational and national security responsibilities.

The MNDF Air Corps was initially established on 15 March 2024 under a Presidential Decree.
