President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to present former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom a commemorative shield tomorrow in honor of Victory Day.
As per the President's Office, former President Maumoon and the recipient of the Grand Order of the Distinguished Rule of Ghaazee (GODRG) will be with the special commemorative shield. President Muizzu also decided to present the families of the martyrs of the 3rd November 1988 attack with commemorative shields.
The shields will be presented tomorrow morning at 9:00am at the Social Center during the official Victory Day Ceremony 2025.
As was written by the President's Office in a press release, President Muizzu made these decisions in order to honor former President Maumoon's contributions and to honor those who sacrificed themselves during the 3rd November attack on a national level.
During the Victory Day ceremony, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will address the nation, with Minister of Defense, Honorable Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon giving a speech as well.
Nineteen Maldivians were martyred on November 3, 1988, during a terrorist attack on the Maldives orchestrated by a small group of Maldivians and Sri Lankans.
