Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) has filed charges against a police officer accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into the Hithadhoo Police Custodial in Addu City.
According to the Maldives Police Service, Mohamed Nauf Naseem, 25, of Funage, Hithadhoo, was stopped and searched on the night of September 4 last year following a report that he was trying to smuggle drugs into Hithadhoo custodial.
He was arrested that night in possession of suspected drugs, police said.
Nauf was remanded for 15 days and later released on bail after his remand period expired on September 20.
Police said the case was forwarded to the PG Office on September 13 this year. The officer has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case.
