Police officer among seven arrested with liquor at Thulusdhoo guest house

During the operation, police recovered two 500ml bottles and a glass of suspected liquor from the premises. Police added that all suspects tested negative for drugs.

Seven people, including a police officer, were arrested with liquor at a guest house in Kaafu Atoll Thulusdhoo last month, Maldives Police Service said today.

Police said those arrested were released under police authority without being taken to court for a remand hearing.

Among the suspects was Police Constable Aminath Maya Hussain Basheer, who has since been suspended. The Professional Standards Command investigated the matter and has recommended her dismissal to the disciplinary board, police said.

According to police, officers raided the guest house on October 17 after receiving a tip that individuals were possessing, using, and dealing in liquor illegally.

A 27 year old man, three 23 year old men, a 26 year old woman, a 23 year old woman, and a 20 year old woman were arrested along with the officer. All seven are Maldivian nationals.
