The police have suspended four officers and recommended their dismissal over an issue involving large sums of money being deposited into their personal bank accounts. These police officers work in Sh. Milandhoo.

The police stated today that after the Police Professional Standards Command investigated the matter concerning significant amounts of money being deposited into the bank accounts of several officers working at the Milandhoo Police Station, the Disciplinary Board reviewed the case and decided to recommend the dismissal of the four officers involved.

Consequently, the police confirmed that these employees have been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the appeal process of the disciplinary board’s decision.

It has been reported that those suspended in this case include three police officers and one civilian staff member working at the Milandhoo Police Station.

The police have not yet disclosed the exact number of individuals involved in the case or the total amount of money in question.

Mihaaru News was previously informed that the officers carried out the scheme in collusion with the individual contracted to provide their food and provisions. By the time the issue came to light, the activity had reportedly been ongoing for several years.

Typically, instead of giving the food allowance directly to police and military personnel, catering services are outsourced to contractors through a bidding process.

The state budget for this year includes MVR 445 million for the food and provisions of the military and police. Of this, MVR 168 million is allocated for police catering expenses, while MVR 87 million is earmarked as a food allowance for individual employees, which amounts to approximately MVR 7 million per month.
