The Prosecutor General's Office has decided not to prosecute opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) National Council member Hussain Hassan on charges of obstructing police duties.

Hussain was arrested in September for allegedly taking photographs and defying police orders during an active police operation. However, the court released him when presented for his remand hearing.

The PG Office said that they would not be pursuing the case, despite Police having sent it for prosecution. This has now been notified to the Police, they said.

At the time, MDP had condemned Hussain's arrest. Hussain serves as the party's President for the GA. Vilin'gili constituency and chairs its Media Committee.
