Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced today that they are seeking a party to conduct a research on alternatives for single-use plastics.

The announcement stated that, in line with the Government's policy to reduce single-use plastics, researchers are being invited to submit bids for a study on alternative materials.

Bills must be submitted before November 12, on which day bid opening will be held, the announcement said.

A list of banned single-use plastic items was compiled during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, detailing a phased ban on 14 product types.

13 of the 14 listed items have now been banned.

The remaining item is bottled water in 500ml and 1l sizes. Import and production of this will be banned from December 1 onwards, with sale banned from March next year.
