The Parliamentary Judiciary Committee today elected Abdu'Satthar Mohamed, PNC
Member of Parliament for the Holhudhoo constituency, as its new Chairperson.
This follows the resignation of the former Chair, Husnee Mubarik, PNC Member of
Parliament for the Manadhoo constituency, from the Committee today.
The Parliamentary Judiciary Committee is mandated to oversee and ensure the
accountability of the judicial sector, including the Judicial Service
Commission (JSC). Husnee Mubarik resigned from the Committee after he was
elected by the Parliament as the new member representing the Parliament on the
Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Following Husnee Mubarik's resignation, MP Abdu'Satthar, who belongs to the PNC
and represents the Holhudhoo constituency, was elected as the new Chairperson
of the Judiciary Committee at today's meeting. He previously served as the
Committee's Vice Chairperson.
Consequently, at today's meeting, Mohamed Mamdhooh, PNC Member of Parliament
for the Funadhoo constituency, was elected as the new Vice Chairperson of the
Committee.
Husnee Mubarik was approved by the Parliament to be appointed as a member of
the JSC after the previous parliamentary representative on the commission,
Maafushi constituency MP Hussain Riza, resigned from both his membership and
the presidency of the JSC.
