MMBC President's salary MVR 59,000, VP's salary MVR 48,000

Former Civil Service Commission (CSC) member Mohamed Farushath was appointed President of the MMBC by Parliament. The Vice President of the MMBC, Zam'ath Ahmed Waheed was elected between commission members.

The President of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) will receive MVR 59,000 in salary and benefits.

The commission has a total of seven members, with three being appointed by Parliament and four being elected by media.

Former Civil Service Commission (CSC) member Mohamed Farushath was appointed President of the MMBC by Parliament. He has previously held the position of Secretary General of Maldives Media Council and several government positions.

The Vice President of the MMBC was elected between commission members. Zam'ath Ahmed Waheed, who held a position at the media department of the Islamic Ministry was appointed as VP of MMBC with four member votes in favor and three against.

Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions designated a base salary of MVR 40,000 for the President of the MMBC. A living allowance of MVR 18,000 and phone allowance of MVR 1,000 brings the total salary up to MVR 59,000.

Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions designated a base salary of MVR 39,000 for the Vice President of the MMBC. A living allowance of MVR 15,000, with the MVR 1,000 phone allowance bringing the total salary up to MVR 55,000.

Media Commission members will have a base salary of MVR 33,000 and a living allowance of MVR 14,000. With the MVR 1,000 phone allowance, this brings the total up to MVR 48,000.

Although the remaining four members were meant to be elected by media vote, the low number of applicants eliminated the need for an election, resulting in automatic selection. These four members are Zam'ath Ahmed Waheed and Abdul Azeez Ibrahim from the broadcasting sector and Hussain Sageef and Simaha Naseem from the online media sector.

Parliament approved the appointment of three members: former member of the CSC and former Secretary General of the Media Council Mohamed Farshath, former President of the Broadcasting Commission Sofa Shafeeq and former member of the Broadcasting Commission Aiminath Sarahath Izzath.
