The Housing Ministry has given one last opportunity for those who received Gulhifalhu plots under the Binveriya scheme to claim the new registry and sign the new agreement.
As per an announcement from the ministry, they have given an extended timeframe for those who are eligible for the plot to claim the registry and sign the agreement.
The ministry also said that the timeframe will allow those who had not procured the agreement and registry to make an appointment via the Hiyaavehi Portal until 6th November, with this being the last opportunity.
As per the Housing Ministry, those who do not request for an appointment within that timeframe will not have the opportunity to sign the agreement.
Documents to be submitted when requesting an appointment through the Hiyaavehi Portal:
- An ID card copy of a witness who will be signing the agreement for the new government plot
- If a representative of the eligible individual for a plot were to sign the agreement and procure the registry, a Power of Attorney document signed in the presence of a public notary or an attorney registered to a court of law must be submitted, along with an ID card copy of the attorney
- A copy of the previous government plot agreement that had been signed by the eligible individual
- A copy of the previous government plot registry given to the eligible individual
The Housing Ministry said that those who do not attend their appointment on time or those who attend the appointment without the necessary documents will have their appointment cancelled.
The Housing Ministry announced the procurement of the new registry on 1st July. However, there are some people, who have already received their plots, who are opposed to signing the new agreement, due to contradictions being noticed between the new agreement and the land allocation rules.
The Housing Ministry published a press release regarding this issue, stating that even though individuals obtained plots at Hulhumale', Gulhufalhu and Giraavaru Falhu from the previous government and due to various reasons resulting in changes being brought to the Land Use Plan, individuals who had received plots from the aforementioned regions have had their plots changed, with lots being drawn once again to determine where they would get the plots.
The ministry said the agreements signed by the previous administration with them were in conflict with the Maldivian Land Act, with the new agreement being drafted due to such reasons.
The government has decided on releasing 2,438 plots in Gulhifalhu. From that number, 1,347 plots were changed from Giraavaru Falhu to Gulhuifalhu.
Under the Binveriya scheme, a total of 9,031 plots are to be given to residents of Male' from Hulhumale', Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru Falhu.
