Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed, who most recently worked in the media section of the
Islamic Ministry, was elected today as the Vice President of the new Media
Commission.
During the Commission's second meeting, when the opportunity was opened for
interested members to submit their names for the Vice President position, two names
were put forward: Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed, who was selected for the Media
Commission under the broadcasting category, and Hussain Sageef, who represents
the online media category.
Zam’ath was elected to the position with four votes. Sageef received three
votes.
The newly established Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC),
created under the new law, has a total of seven members. These include three
members appointed by the Parliament and four members elected by media outlets.
However, when the Commission was formed, only four candidates applied for the
seats reserved for media-elected members, resulting in those individuals
joining the Commission without an election. These members are Abdul Azeez
Ibrahim, Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed, Simaha Naseem, and Hussain Sageef.
The members appointed to the Commission by the Parliament are Mohamed
Farshath, former President of the Broadcasting Commission Sofa Shafeeq, and
former member of the same commission Aminath Sarahath Izzath. From among the
parliamentary appointees, Mohamed Farshath was appointed as the President of
the Commission.
