The Ministry of Cities has decided to form special monitoring committees that will oversee whether island projects are progressing as per the resident's wishes, and in order to increase resident participation and inclusivity.
Cities Minister Adam Shareef told Mihaaru News in an interview that the purpose of forming the committees is to garner opinions and hold discussions with civil societies and senior citizens regarding island projects.
"It is our belief that community projects such as these are important, with civil society participation or increasing the opinions of senior citizens being paid attention to and worked towards," said Adam Shareef.
As per the minister, a regulation to form the committees named the "Island Project Monitoring Committee" will be made, with the regulation having been sent to councils.
The role of the committees formed under the regulation will be to ensure projects run by the Cities Ministry are proceeding as planned and to properly inform citizens as to how projects are progressing.
"For example, there are council agencies being established, with such projects being conducted in the future as well. Projects to build children's parks will also move forward," said Adam Shareef.
Committee comprised of:
- Member appointed from the island council
- Member appointed from the Women's Development Committee
- The appointment of a civil employee from the council
- Member chosen by the public
- Member appointed from club organizations
- Member appointed from senior citizens
- Member appointed from the youth
- The appointment of a construction industry member who is aware of ongoing an project and the work surrounding it
As per the minister, a member for the project's field of work will be included in the committee to ensure the quality of work that is being done.
"Whether the tiles that are being used are of good quality, for example. Whether the proper amount and size of metal is being used, etc. An individual with such knowledge will be included in the committee as well," said Adam Shareef.
The issues recognized by Project Monitoring Committees will also be submitted to councils and ministries.
The Cities Ministry has awarded the construction of 55 councils to the RCC. The minister also said that committees have been formed in the islands where the projects are taking place.
