More development projects were announced last night along with constructing 300 housing units in Naifaru and a project to reclaim an additional 45 hectares of land.
The projects were signed and announced during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's visit to Lhaviyani Atoll and Kaafu Atoll which started yesterday.
The 300 housing unit project was awarded to HDC during last night's meeting where President Muizzu met with Naifaru residents. Private company 3 Way Enterprises and the Fisheries Ministry signed a project to build a slipway in Naifaru during the meeting as well.
Along with that, MTCC was tasked with further developing Naifaru's current harbor and to build a completely new one.
MACL was awarded with establishing a sports complex with a capacity of 1,200 people, with WAMCO being tasked with waste management. The establishment of a 30-ton ice plant and road improvement projects had begun yesterday evening.
While speaking at last night's meeting, President Muizzu gave his assurance that the projects he had promised and the projects that were signed last night, along with the practical work that would begin today will be completed.
The President said that he had pledged to the people of Naifaru during the 2023 Presidential Election that the government would build 300 housing units. He also said that along with the 300 housing unit project that was signed last night, a project to build an additional 100 housing units will be awarded to a company very soon.

President Muizzu said that Naifaru's road improvement project would not be completed in multiple steps but in one phase.
"As per my pledge, the project that started today will see all the roads be developed in one phase," said President Muizzu.
President Muizzu went on to say that 45 hectares of land reclamation began today as the government had announced it to be an urban center, with the island being important to sustainable development in Maldives. He gave his assurance the project will move forward with haste and will not stop.
The President said that with the completion of the current harbor upgrade and the establishment of a new harbor, Naifaru will be home to the biggest harbor in northern Maldives.

President Muizzu highlighted the agreement to establish a national university campus at Naifaru, as was part of his pledge. He stated that the work to build an Islamic University campus and a dorm will be handed to a company quite soon.
"Two national university campuses and a dorm will be built. With that, this island will become a source of educational pride in Maldives. And so I truly believe it is of importance that these higher education centers be established in a significant island where there are so many children," said the President.
He also stated that a project to build an Islamic Center in Naifaru will begin this year. Naifaru's school, the Madhrasathul Ifthithaah will see an increase of 10 classrooms and a project to construct a building that includes a laboratory will commence this year as well, as per the President.
President Muizzu then announced the project to build a modern 50-bed hospital. The President said that the practical work for the project will begin this year, with the agreement having been signed with the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
"Work is being done on detailed design," said President Muizzu while giving his assurance that CT scan services will be established at Naifaru's Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital within four months at the most.
