President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today stated that the slow pace of development
in Lh. Hinnavaru has come to an end, and today marks the day that a new chapter
for the island's progress has begun.
Speaking to the people of Hinnavaru during his visit to Lh. and K. Atolls
this morning, the President declared that today is the day a new page was
turned to bring the highest possible speed of development desired by the
island's residents.
"God willing, I will fulfil all the promises made, through the projects
signed today. And all these promises will be fulfilled through the projects
whose practical work has now commenced," the President said.
President Muizzu noted that Hinnavaru is an island where many people face
difficulties in living. With a population of over 5,000, he described it as a
very crowded and congested island.
The President said that the newly reclaimed land in Hinnavaru has remained
unused for a long time. Therefore, he stated that this government will give
special priority to utilizing this land.

In this regard, the Ministry of Construction today contracted Fenaka Corporation to provide water and sewerage services to the newly reclaimed area
of Hinnavaru. The agreement was signed by Minister of Construction Dr. Abdulla
Muththalib and Fenaka's Managing Director Mohamed Najah at a ceremony held in
Naifaru today.
President Muizzu emphasized that establishing electricity, water, and
sewerage for the reclaimed area of Hinnavaru would be given high priority and
completed. The President noted that it is a great hardship for residents who
have been allocated plots of land on the island to find that essential services
are not yet available.
"Therefore, God willing, to deliver the benefits of the project
that has started and the project that has been signed, the government will give
it very high priority, and I give you my full assurance that this work will be
completed and delivered to you with great swiftness and high speed," President
Muizzu said, speaking in the home island of former President Ibrahim Mohamed
Solih.

Furthermore, an agreement was also signed today between Maldives National
University (MNU) and RDC to construct a branch of the National University in
Hinnavaru.
During his trip, the President also laid the foundation stone for the
construction of a BML bank branch in Hinnavaru. The President stated that the
branch's services will be available in Naifaru by March next year.
President Muizzu also expressed concern over the stalled housing project in
Hinnavaru and gave assurance that the contract would be terminated and the work
would be accelerated. He also announced that an additional 100 housing units
would be included in the state budget for the coming year for the island.
The President announced that a modern 1,200-person capacity sports complex
project will also be started in Hinnavaru next year, which will also be
included in the next year's budget.
The President also stated today that the government has decided to raise the
outer sea wall of the Hinnavaru harbor and change its design to allow for
vessel berthing. He added that the practical work on this will begin very soon.
President Muizzu announced that the work of waste management in Hinnavaru
will be handed over in January of next year. He said that WAMCO will sign the
agreement with the island council by the end of this year.
