President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced today that the Road Development Corporation (RDC)'s capacity will be enhanced within the next two months to enable it to work on multiple islands simultaneously.

He made this statement this evening during a meeting with the residents of Hinnavaru, Lh. Atoll, during a trip that started this morning to four islands in Lh. and three islands in K. Atolls.

The President said that when he took office on November 17, 2023, RDC's capability was very weak, but efforts have now begun to expand the fleet of its work equipment.

He stated that the most modern equipment is being procured from overseas to enable the company to work on a large number of islands at the same time.

"Asphalt laying machines and all other equipment (are being imported). We are securing a very large fleet," President Muizzu said.

The President estimated that the delivery of this equipment would "significantly improve RDC's capacity" within a maximum of two months.

"The orders have been placed. So, once these items are brought in, the pace of road construction and other work in the many islands will increase rapidly," President Muizzu explained.

He added that his administration places great importance on the road paving projects for Hinnavaru's roads and that the improved equipment for RDC will yield better results.
