15 hectares of land to be reclaimed in Olhuvelifushi; several development projects launched

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a series of major development projects for Lhaviyani atoll Olhuvelifushi, including the reclamation of 15 hectares of land.

During his ongoing visit to Lhaviyani atoll, President Muizzu attended a meeting with residents of Olhuvelifushi, where an agreement was signed for land reclamation, coastal protection, and vessel hauling.

Speaking at the event, the President launched physical works on multiple projects today, including:

  • Harbour development work
  • Construction of a branch of the Quran Center
  • Laying of the foundation stone for a Fitness and Recreation Centre
  • Laying of the foundation stone for a new police station
  • Signing for the construction of a football stadium
  • Laying of the foundation stone for a council building
  • Provision of funding for a volleyball court
  • A road construction project planned for next year

President Muizzu also highlighted the need to upgrade the island’s electricity network and assured that issues with the sewerage system will be resolved within the year, noting that the service cannot be provided until it is fixed.

He further addressed the stalled school project, saying he would engage the company responsible to resume and complete installation of air conditioning units in classrooms by the start of the next academic year.
