HDC has begun removing large trees from pavements in Hulhumale' and planting them in various parks, along with cleaning the roads in an effort to solve the issue of road flooding.

HDC has always received complaints from pedestrians about the roots of trees jutting out from the pavement and them giving approval to cafes to put their chairs and tables out on the pavement.

The "Hiyfaseyha Hulhumale'" (Comfortable Hulhumale') campaign to remove large trees from the hedges was started last Saturday due to those trees making it difficult to drain water, causing flooding on the roads of Hulhumale'.

HDC has said the pavements have also been damaged due to the roots of the trees.

HDC also said that they have begun replanting said trees in various Hulhumale' parks instead of cutting them down.

They went on to say that after the Hiyfaseyha Hulhumale' campaign, they will give the public the opportunity to plant trees in the hedge that would not damage the roads. This falls in line with the corporation's efforts in making Hulhumale' a greener place to live.

HDC stated that their work, which has been split into a total of 12 zones, will make it easier for pedestrians to use the pavements.

HDC, Maldives Food and Drug Authority and the police are conducting these efforts hand-in-hand.
